Manager Davey Johnson has decided he will alternate Brad Lidge and Henry Rodriguez as dual closers with Drew Storen out to begin the season. If the Nationals enter the bottom of the ninth today with the lead, he would call on Lidge. He plans to keep alternating them daily, which could limit Rodriguez’s set-up duties, even on days when Lidge is the assigned closer.
“Basically, I divide bullpens on A and B and try to keep them throwing every other day,” Johnson said. “And with Storen out, I did that in spring training and it worked out pretty good. Both of them finished up great, both of them had very strong springs, and so I’ll start the year in that same situation.”
