Cole Kimball sent to minor league camp (Updated)

The Nationals sent hard-throwing reliever Cole Kimball to minor league camp. While Kimball was impressive this spring, the move is not surprising given his lack of experience — he’s never pitched above Class AA Harrisburg — and the Nationals’ crowded bullpen. Just down this here blog, there’s some analysis on the Nationals’ decision in regard to where Kimball pitches this year.

First baseman Chris Marrero was also sent to minor league camp, and he was neither surprised nor worried by the move.

Update: The Nationals also cut catcher Derek Norris, widely regarded as one of the top 75 or so prospects in baseball. Norris will begin the season in Class AA Harrisburg after last year playing all season in Class A Potomac. Marrero, Kimball and Corey Brown were all optioned to Class AAA Syracuse.
