Davey Johnson makes a tentative change to the Nationals' rotation

(Matt York - AP)
The Nationals, as expected, will alter their rotation after their off day Thursday to separate left-handers Ross Detwiler and Gio Gonzalez. Detwiler will swap places with Edwin Jackson, which means the tentative Nationals rotation beginning Friday will be Detwiler, Jackson, Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmermann and Stephen Strasburg.

It is tentative because Johnson may hold Gonzalez back one more day in order line him up to face the Braves, who have struggled against left-handed starters this year. He would rather give Zimmermann, who has dealt with inflammation in his right shoulder, an extra day to rest. But Johnson could change his mind based on how Zimmermann pitches and feels tonight.
