Following up an that earlier note about Stephen Strasburg’s simulated game, Manager Davey Johnson said Strasburg may be able to pitch in the majors as early as the beginning of September. He said the Nationals will not rush Strasburg, but he expects to see him in the majors.
Strasburg’s demeanor in the game yesterday suggests he’s raring to go. During his simulated start, the Nationals placed a runner on first base so he could throw out of the stretch. Strasburg was angry – he wanted to retire every batter he faced and keep the bases empty. His elbow may still be at the final stages of regaining strength, but his competitiveness is at 100 percent.
For tonight’s start, the Mets come in off a sweep of the Reds and the Nationals come in having gotten swept by the Marlins. Chien-Ming Wang is the main event. As always, talk about the game here.
