Game 119 discussion thread: Nationals at Phillies

Davey Johnson moved Ian Desmond back to the eighth spot in the lineup today, but it will not be a permanent decision. Johnson based the move only Desmond’s history against Phillies starter Roy Oswalt, against whom he is 0 for 13 with four strikeouts. Johnson thought Wilson Ramos would provide more protection for Laynce Nix tonight, but Johnson still likes Desmond as the usual seven hitter.

On June 1, John Lannan finally got his win against the Phillies after starting his career with 10 losses against them. Tonight’s game provides something of a flashback for Lannan. In his big league debut, made at Citizens Bank Park, Lannan hit Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in consecutive at-bats. Home plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt ejected Lannan. Tonight’s home plate umpire? The very same Hunter Wendelstedt. (Lannan has pitched one other game with Wendelstedt behind the plate between his debut and tonight.)

The Nationals are trying to win their fourth straight game against the Phillies, something they have never done before. As always, talk about the game right here.
