Ivan Rodriguez hit in the batting cage today, and he remained on track to begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Class A Potomac in Frederick. The plan is for Rodriguez to catch five innings. He also threw to bases hours before today’s game, his right arm still a cannon.
As for tonight’s game, John Lannan will get to face a team other than the Phillies, his nemesis, for the first time since Aug. 8. Lannan lost his two starts against the Phillies, but prior to that had been on something of a roll – the Nationals had won eight of his last 11 starts. With a win tonight, Lannan would become the team’s leader in wins with nine, finally ensuring Jason Marquis will not be tied for the Nationals’ lead.
The Nationals will face Wade Miley, the left-handed rookie Arizona called up to replace Marquis, who broke his leg in his third start following his trade from the Nationals, after he went on the disabled list. As always, talk about the game right here.
