Game 19 discussion thread: Nationals at Pirates

UPDATE, 7:47: The grounds crew is out on the field removing the tarp, and the Pirates expect an 8:15 p.m. first pitch.

It does not look like this game will be starting on time. There is no rain at PNC Park, but the tarp was rolled out at about 6:40. There have been no announcements about a start time, but we’ll keep you posted here.

When the game begins, here’s an interesting side note: Of the 50 players on the two rosters, seven – 14 percent – have played for both teams: Brian Bixler, Sean Burnett, Tom Gorzelanny, Adam Laroche, Joel Hanrahan, Joe Beimel and Matt Stairs. That does count Scott Olsen, who rehabbing in the Pittsburgh minor leagues, or Lastings Milledge and Nyjer Morgan, who have moved on to other teams.

And, when the game starts, Livan Hernandez will be making his 450th straight start without a trip to the disabled list, a truly remarkable run. He’ll face Jeff Karstens. As always, talk about the game right here.
