Game 58 discussion thread: Nationals at DBacks

Jayson Werth is back in the Nationals’ lineup tonight after missing last night’s game with swelling in his elbow, which was hit Thursday night by an Aaron Heilman fastball. Baseballs hitting batters has actually been a theme this series.

Three Nationals pitchers have hit Justin Upton with a pitch this series, and last night he showed some anger after Yunesky Maya hit him with his final pitch of the night, and then later when Cole Kimball hit him with a curveball.

None of the pitches were intentional. When Sean Burnett hit him, it put the tying run in the batter’s box. Maya had lost his control, as he showed by walking the pitcher. And Kimball threw a curveball. Still, you wonder if there won’t be a reaction, anyway – Upton is Arizona’s star player, and three is a lot.

If the Diamondbacks do hit someone, it’ll be West Springfield native and Virginia Tech graduate Joe Saunders doing the honors. Livan Hernandez goes for the Nationals. Talk about the game right here.
