At first, the Nationals couldn’t string together consecutive wins. And now, they are riding a four-game winning streak, the longest of the season, and hoping to make it five — and to continue the climb towards .500.
Livan Hernandez (3-8, 4.15 ERA), who has suffered through lackluster hitting when he pitches and hasn’t won since late April, takes the mound for the Nationals. Hernandez is 0-4 in his last six starts against the Cardinals but there’s hope that the offense that came to life in a six-run seventh inning in Tuesday’s win will rise to life again in support.
