In his very first game in almost 11 years, Davey Johnson may face a difficult decision at the end of tonight. If the Nationals have a small lead in the ninth, he will have to choose on a closer, with Drew Storen at home attending his grandmother’s funeral. Before the game, Johnson said he would probably give the closer nod to Tyler Clippard, but that he would feel comfortable will a few others from the bullpen, too.
With Johnson at the helm, the Nationals are trying to win their 14th of 16. The last time they played in Anaheim, they had won 15 of 17, it was 2005 and one of their players called Mike Scioscia “a piece of garbage.” Good times all around.
Tonight, John Lannan is on the mound. In his past five starts, he’s got a 1.44 ERA. Ervin “Magic” Santana will go for the Angels. (No one actually calls him Magic.) As always, talk about the game right here.
