Game 86 discussion thread: Nationals vs. Cubs

(Ben Margot - AP)
Jordan Zimmermann did not make the all-star team yesterday, nor did he inspire much sympathy as a snub. But he really has become one of the best starters in the National League and a true ace for the Nationals. His 2.63 ERA coming into today ranks fifth in the NL, and he’s also second in fewest homers allowed per nine innings and fifth in walks per nine.

With Zimmermann going for his 12th straight consecutive quality start, the Nationals need another great performance from him. They played a doubleheader Saturday and Jason Marquis recorded four outs yesterday, so their bullpen is a bit worn down. Zimmermann has allowed two or fewer earned runs in eight straight starts.

The Nationals will try to get their bats going against Casey Coleman, who was called up from Class AAA after Ryan Dempster was scratched. As always, talk about the game right here.
