The Nationals will try for a four-game sweep of the Cubs tonight against right-hander Matt Garza, whom they had discussions about trading this offseason. Livan Hernandez will throw his final start before the all-star break. If the Nationals win, they’ll reach three games over .500, their best mark since May 15, 2010.
The Nationals could use a boost from Ryan Zimmerman, who since getting a day off Monday has hit like his old self. Zimmerman is 5 for 8 with a walk in his past two games, including going 3 for 4 with two doubles and a homer last night.
“The last few days have been good,” Zimmerman said. “There were a lot of pitches I was swinging at I usually don’t swing at. I’m starting to lay off them again, which obviously puts me in a better count. The strike zone is coming back, and when you get ahead in the count, you can be a little more aggressive.”
As always, talk about the game right here.
