The Nationals are trying to avoid a three-game losing streak tonight, and they may be facing the wrong guy to do that. Mat Latos pitched against the Nationals twice last season, and twice he was utterly dominant. Latos allowed two runs in six innings his first start. In his second, he shut them out over seven innings. In those 13 combined innings, Latos struck out 16.
The Nationals will counter with Jason Marquis, who had his last start cut short by ejection after shutting out the Diamondbacks for 5 1/3 innings. Jerry Hairston is available tonight, even though he’s out for the third straight day while dealing with back spasms. Both Hairston and Manager Jim Riggleman expected him to be in the starting lineup tomorrow.
As always, talk about the game right here.
