Jayson Werth misses first Nationals game with ‘aches and pains’

Right fielder Jayson Werth missed the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Brewers, a 5-1 Nationals win, with “some general aches and pains,” Manager Jim Riggleman said. After the game, Werth walked around the Nationals clubhouse with a bandage around his left knee.

Werth is not injured, could have played Sunday and will return to the lineup Tuesday in St. Louis, Riggleman said. Werth had started the first 14 games of his Nationals’ tenure.

In his first two weeks with the Nationals, Werth is 11 for 55 with four doubles, two home runs and eight walks, which works out to a .200/.302/.382 slash line. He’s also stolen two bases and helped create to of the more promising offensive trends for the Nationals – smart, aggressive running on the bases and patience at the plate.

Center fielder Rick Ankiel is the only Nationals player to have started all 15 Nationals games. Ian Desmond and Danny Espinosa are the only others to have played in all 15.
