Outfielder Laynce Nix remained out of the lineup today with a sore right Achilles’ heel, but expects to return tomorrow in Chicago and is available to pinch-hit today. Nix has played with tightness in his heel for most of the season, and he left Tuesday night’s game after playing with it became untenable.
Nix said his Achilles felt “the same” today as it has the past couple days, he said, but he thinks he’ll play tomorrow. “I won’t let it go too long,” he said.
Hitting does not bother Nix, and in American League stadiums, the Nationals could rest Nix but also get his bat in the lineup as a designated hitter. But, “I’m not planning on that,” Nix said. Manager Jim Riggleman also said he’ll want to get Matt Stairs in the lineup as the DH against right-handed starters, and he was not planning on using Nix as a DH.
