Lee Hyde designated for assignment

The Nationals designated Class AAA Syracuse left-handed reliever Lee Hyde for assignment in order to make room for utility infield Brian Bixler on the 40-man roster.

Hyde, 26, has an 11.05 ERA in six appearances for Syracuse this year. The Nationals claimed him off waivers from the Atlanta Braves late in spring training and gave him the 40-man roster spot vacated by Stephen Strasburg’s being placed on the 60-day disabled list. The Nationals will have 10 days to trade or release Hyde.

Starter Garrett Mock, a member of the Nationals’ 2010 opening day starting rotation who has walked 17 batters in 11 1/3 innings at Syracuse, was another candidate to be designated for assignment. But the Nationals instead placed him on the disabled list.
