Matt Stairs will probably be the Nationals’ DH this weekend

The Nationals will play only two more games before their 2011 interleague schedule begins in Baltimore, which means they will need to choose a designated hitter. The “leading candidate,” Manager Jim Riggleman said, is Matt Stairs, who this season is 2 for 21 with six walks and eight strikeouts.

The Orioles have not finalized their starters for the weekend series, but chances are they will throw three right-handed pitchers at the Nationals. Left-handed phenom Zach Britton would have pitched Sunday’s game, but the Orioles were rained out yesterday and he will pitch tonight for the Orioles instead, meaning he’ll miss the Nationals.
