It’s grown a little chilly at the park tonight for Gio Gonzalez’s third start of the season. Manager Davey Johnson gave Wilson Ramos the day off in favor of Jesus Flores as a standard rest for a catcher who has caught 20 innings the past two days. After Ramos hit a home run last night, “Wilson’s in a better place, swinging the bat better,” Johnson said.
Johnson flipped Mark DeRosa and Xavier Nady, with DeRosa now in right and Nady in left. The first time Johnson used a DeRosa-Werth-Nady outfield against a left-handed starter, Nady played right and DeRosa played left. Johnson believes they’re similar players – same range, same arm – and DeRosa mentioned to Johnson today that he prefers right. Simple as that.
As always, talk about the game right here.
