3:29, END 9: The Nats won, 8-0. Edwin Jackson and Ross Detwiler were awfully impressive. Henry Rodriguz pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. Zimmerman hit a homer and drove in two runs.
3:16, MID 8: Just back from talking to Bryce Harper and Edwin Jackson. Harper thinks he’ll be out two or three days. Jackson felt like he put mechanics out of his mind and found a really good rhythm. He got a few swing-and-misses with his changeup, too.
Meanwhile, the Nats lead, 8-0. Ross Detwiler retired all nine batters he faced, striking out three. His fastball had a lot of late life and zipped mostly between 91 and 93 miles per hour. Anthony Rendon tagged a double to right-center, too.
2:33, END 5: Ryan Zimmerman drove in another run, scoring pinch-runner Anthony Rendon with an opposite-field, line-drive single. Stve Lombardozzi had doubled to start the rally. Jason Michaels also hit an RBI single, making him 5 for 9 this spring. It’s 4-0, Nats.
2:16, MID 5: Dominating first inning for Ross Detwiler. He struck out Fernando Martinez, who’s having a big spring, looking. After a groundout, Detwiler struck out Jason Castro swinging late on a fastball.
2:07, BOT 4: Edwin Jackson is presumably done after really sharp innings. He allowed two singles and no walks, striking out three. Nationals starters, for what it’s worth, have thrown 12 straight scoreless innings.
1:53, BOT 3: The Nats lead 2-0 after Brett Carroll doubled, continuing his strong push to make the roster, and Eury Perez followed with a single. Edwin Jackson gave up two singles in the second, neither especially hard hit, and he also struck out two. Livan Hernandez left the game after Ryan Zimmerman hit him with a comeback, but Livo seemed to be fine.

1:13, BOT 1: Edwin Jackson breezed through the first with two quick groundouts and an infield pop-up. The easy inning was good sign after the control hiccups Jackson had in his first start. With two outs in the first, Ryan Zimmerman drilled an opposite field home off Livo that got a lot of help from the wnd. It’s 1-0, Nats.
Still no word on the reason for Bryce Harper getting pulled.
1:07, TOP 1: Bryce Harper was scratched from the game today. There has been no reason given, but we’ll have more information when it’s available. Eury Perez is starting in center, while Brett Carroll moved from center to right.
PREGAME: The Nationals will get their second look at old friend Livan Hernandez today, with Bryce Harper perhaps getting another crack at Livo’s looping curveball. Edwin Jackson, who had some initial command issues in his first start, will face the Astros for the second time. First pitch coming shortly. No radio today, so keep it here for updates.
