After a surreal past three days of offense in Colorado, the Nationals return to earth in Atlanta. Asked how the team would be able to keep up the offensive explosion, Manager Davey Johnson put it bluntly: “Hope they throw pitchers that hang a lot of breaking balls and stuff like that.” And, he added, it helps the hitters feel more confident: “When they look up on the board and see the batting average, it’s not as embarrassing.”
Oh, and Ross Detwiler (4-3, 3.09 ERA) takes mound for the second time since being re-inserted into the starting rotation. The Nationals hold a 3.5-game lead on the Braves. Talk about the game here.
