Starter Gio Gonzalez was named a National League all-star today, along with Stephen Strasburg. Both sat on the couch before today’s final game of a three-game series against the Braves, chatting and smiling. Now, Gonzalez (10-3, 2.78 ERA) takes the mound and the temperature at game time was 101 degrees.
Shortstop Ian Desmond was also named to the National League all-star team, as a reserve. Rookie outfielder Bryce Harper was one of five candidates for the final spot on the team decided by fan vote.
