Nationals-Braves lineups: Laynce Nix at first for Chris Marrero

(Nick Wass - AP)
Jayson Werth returns to the Nationals lineup after missing two games because of a bruised right elbow. Chris Marrero will sit for the second straight game, but Manager Davey Johnson said Marrero is fine. Johnson wanted to give Nix at-bats against Tim Hudson, against whom he is 7 for 19 with a home run.

While Johnson has wanted to give Marrero an everyday role, Johnson also wanted to give the Nationals their best chance to win as the Braves fend off the Cardinals in the NL wild-card race. The Braves hold a two-game lead.

“That’s kind of a rock and a hard spot,” Johnson said. “I want to give at-bats to Marrero. But I have to look at what St. Louis is trying to do and not make it too easy. Not that Marrero is an easier out than Nixie, but Nixie has had some pretty good numbers.”
