Nationals’ lineup plans still delayed by injuries

(Julio Cortez - AP)
Davey Johnson had planned on using a lineup today that mirrored, or at least closely resembled, the one the Nationals will employ on opening day. Injuries, though, are still keeping that from happening.

With Michael Morse, Adam LaRoche and Rick Ankiel nursing ailments, Steve Lombardozzi is starting in left field, Mark DeRosa is starting at first base and Roger Bernadina is in center. It’s Lombardozzi’s first start in left since the Nationals added “outfield” to his job description.

Ankiel’s name had apparently been whited-out on the lineup card. He’s still dealing some tightness in his left hamstring, and it seems pointless to test it now. Ankiel started yesterday in Sarasota and has played four of the past five days.

“I feel like I’m getting past it,” Ankiel said. “It’s just something you want to be cautious with.”

Jesus Flores is at catcher, just because Wilson Ramos played yesterday. And, hey, Stephen Strasburg is pitching. Here are the lineups:

Nationals

1. Ian Desmond, SS

2. Danny Espinosa, 2B

3. Ryan Zimmerman, 3B

4. Jayson Werth, RF

5. Mark DeRosa, 1B

6. Jesus Flores, C

7. Roger Bernadina, CF

8. Steve Lombardozzi, LF

9. Stephen Strasburg, SP

Mets

1. Ruben Tejada, SS

2. David Murphy, 2B

3. Jason Bay, LF

4. Ike Davis, 1B

5. Vinny Rottino, 3B

6. Jordany Valdespin, 2B

7. Adam Loewen, RF

8. Lucas May, C

9. Matt Harvey, SP
