Nationals-Orioles lineups: Ian Desmond won’t lead off

(John McDonnell/Washington Post)
Hoping to shake up a sputtering offense, Nationals Manager Davey Johnson has shuffled the lineup. For the first time this season, shortstop Ian Desmond will play and not bat leadoff. Instead, against Orioles right hander Jason Hammel (4-1, 2.68 ERA), Desmond will hit fifth — a move, Johnson said, he and Desmond discussed doing a few days ago to take advantage of his power so far this season.

Steve Lombardozzi will start at second and hit leadoff for only the second time this season, giving Danny Espinosa a day off.
