Nationals sign all top four draft picks: Anthony Rendon, Alex Meyer, Brian Goodwin and Matt Purke

The Nationals made a flurry of signings at the midnight deadline approach, giving them a draft haul team executives believe will give the Nationals their “most impactful” draft since baseball returned to Washington.

At this hour, the signing bonuses for Anthony Rendon, Alex Meyer and Brian Goodwin and Matt Purke are not clear. But the Nationals have agreed to terms with all four of of their first picks, a club source said.

The Nationals gave Purke, the No. 96 overall pick, a left-handed pitcher from TCU, a four-year, major league deal worth roughly $4.4 million, according to a report by Baseball American’s Jim Callis.

The Nationals gave Miami Dade College outfielder and No. 34 pick Brian Goodwin a $3 million signing bonus, according to a report by Sports Illustrated. The bonus smashes the MLB recommended slot for the 34th overall pick and matches the mark the league recommends for the third overall pick.

If Purke and Goodwin received those astronomical bonuses, the Nationals likely spent at least $16 million to sign all four players, a commitment that will likely exceed even the previous two years, when they signed top overall picks Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper to record deals.

More to come later.
