With every start, Stephen Strasburg nears the end of his season. He stands at 139 1/3 innings and takes the mound on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves. Strasburg (14-5, 2.91 ERA) is 2-1 in four starts against the Braves. Left-hander Paul Maholm (11-7, 3.39) starts for the Braves. He is 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA since being acquired in a trade from the Chicago Cubs. The Nationals hold a six game lead over the Braves in the NL East.
When Strasburg pitches and continues to grow as a pitcher, “it should be exciting to everybody else instead of when he’s getting shutting down,” Nationals Manager Davey Johnson said. “He’s a remarkable young arm.”
UPDATE, 7:45 p.m.: The tarp is on the field and it’s raining hard. No idea how long this will last, but it can’t be good for Strasburg.
UPDATE, 8:29 p.m.: The Nationals announce an 8:35 p.m. re-start time. It appears Strasburg is going to re-take the mound.
As always, talk about the game here.
