Left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler hasn’t pitched since July 5, a layoff of 12 days. The long time off affected Monday’s starter Edwin Jackson some, and before Tuesday’s game, Manager Davey Johnson said that could be a factor again. Detwiler (4-3, 3.43 ERA) is opposing another left-hander, Jonathon Niese (7-4, 3.73 ERA).
With a split series against the Miami Marlins, the Nationals hold only a 2.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves. The Mets have lost four straight games.
As always, talk about the game here.
