It has been a busy day at Nationals Park, the July 31 trade deadline, but that’s not because of the Washington Nationals. The Philadelphia Phillies traded away two all-star outfielders, Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence, for prospects, an obvious sign the team wanted to save money and essentially cut their losses on a disappointing season. The Nationals, however, stuck with what has worked so far this season and didn’t make any moves.
The Nationals have won 13 of the past 17 meetings against the Phillies, who sit in last place in the National League East. Stephen Strasburg (11-4, 2.76 ERA) opposes left-hander Cliff Lee (1-6, 395 ERA).
