The Nationals reinstated Ryan Zimmerman from disabled list and officially moved Jayson Werth to the 15-day disabled list. Zimmerman is expected to start at third base in Pittsburgh after he missed 13 games with an inflamed right shoulder joint. The Nationals went 7-6 without Zimmerman after starting 11-4 with him.
Werth will likely miss 10 to 12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a distal radius fracture in his left wrist. The Nationals can move him to the 60-day disabled list if they need an open spot on the 40-man roster.
It will be interesting to see how Zimmerman fits into the Nationals’ lineup. He had been hitting third, but with Bryce Harper now in the lineup and Werth out, Manager Davey Johnson could bat Zimmerman third or cleanup.
