Stephen Strasburg, Johan Santana set for marquee matchup

This afternoon, Strasburg will participate in his juiciest pitching match-up, facing off against Mets ace and two-time Cy Young winner Johan Santana. Shoulder surgery, the same complicated procedure Chien-Mang Wang endured, has diminished Santana. But he still started opening day for the Mets, and pitched five scoreless innings against the Braves, striking out five and walking two.

It should be a fascinating match-up to watch, Strasburg, the tall-right-hander, whistling high-90s fastballs against Santana, the sawed-off lefty baffling hitters with his disappearing changeup. The Nationals have faced Santana nine times, eight when he pitched for New York and once when he still played for Minnesota, that magical night when Levale Speigner beat him at the Metrodome.
