The Nationals are planning to give Stephen Strasburg one additional start this season after he pitches Friday, Manager Davey Johnson said. Johnson had wanted to let Strasburg pitch in Florida on Wednesday, the final day of the regular season. He spoke with General Manager Mike Rizzo, who also thought Strasburg would benefit from making a fifth start in his return from Tommy John surgery.
The weather could halt those plans, though. Rain is in the forecast for Friday night, and if that game gets pushed back Strasburg would not be able to get his full four days of rest before the season finale. The Nationals, obviously, will not let Strasburg pitch on short rest.
Johnson also confirmed that Ivan Rodriguez will catch the final game of this season, as reported yesterday.
