Nationals’ rotation going forward: Likely one more start for Strasburg

(Nick Wass/AP)

One, Johnson said it’s customary for the younger of the two starting pitchers to pitch the first game of a doubleheader. Two, the Nationals will face right-hander Kyle Kendrick in the day game, and lefty Cliff Lee at night, and Johnson wanted Milone, the better hitter, to face Kendrick.

Here’s the rotation going forward:

Today: Tommy Milone, Game 1; Ross Detwiler, Game 2

Wednesday: John Lannan

Thursday: Brad Peacock

Friday: Stephen Strasburg

Saturday: Chien-Ming Wang

Sunday: Detwiler likely will start, depending on how things go today.

The Nationals have not made any final decisions for their last series of the season in Florida. The most likely three to start seem to be Milone, Lannan and Peacock, meaning the next starts for Strasburg and Wang probably will be their last of 2011.
