Today’s Nationals lineup

Manager Davey Johnson indicated today’s lineup would be an accurate preview for opening day. And here it is:

1. Ian Desmond, SS

2. Danny Espinosa, 2B

3. Ryan Zimmerman, 3B

4. Adam LaRoche, 1B

5. Jayson Werth, RF

6. Mark DeRosa, LF

7. Xavier Nady, DH

8. Wilson Ramos, C

9. Roger Bernadina, CF

-Edwin Jackson

Obviously, the Nationals will not be using a designated hitter at Wrigley Field on Thursday, so remove Nady, place Stephen Strasburg on the bottom, and there you have it. Roger Bernadina, after his scare yesterday with a right-knee contusion, will play.

Adam LaRoche, and not Jayson Werth, will hit cleanup with Michael Morse on the disabled list to begin the season. Morse’s status changes the equation for the Nationals, but how many other teams are considering a platoon with their opening day cleanup hitter?

For the Red Sox today, right-hander Clay Buchholz will start.
