Today’s Nationals-Phillies lineup

Sprawled out on a leather couch in the Nationals clubhouse before Sunday’s game, shortstop Ian Desmond watched the pitching sequences of a recent Roy Halladay start against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Desmond, who is batting leadoff for the fifth straight game and is 3 for 15 in his career against the Phillies starter, was soaking in every at-bat against Halladay, noting how he throws a textbook first-pitch strike and follows it up, usually, with a ball to tease the batter.

The Nationals’ best hitter, Michael Morse, is back in the lineup for the second straight game after missing Friday’s game with inflammation in his left elbow.

Chien-Ming Wang takes the mound for his fifth start as a National.
