(Toni L. Sandys - THE WASHINGTON POST)
Everything is the same here — well, except that Rick Ankiel is back. Ankiel, a rocket-armed center fielder, had been on the 15-day disabled list and had yet to play this season because of a tight left quadriceps. After Friday’s Nats-Reds game, he was activated and was immediately penciled into the next day’s lineup.
He took early batting practice Friday at Nationals Park, after finishing minor league rehab assignments and, by Manager Davey Johnson’s account, looked good.
Saturday will be the true test against righthander Homer Bailey (0-1, 6.35 ERA). In batting practice before Saturday’s game, Ankiel seemed fine, too.
