Earlier in this space, I erroneously reported that the Nationals were on the verge of trading Todd Coffey. I received bad information, and I apologize for the mistake. It’s much, much worse to be wrong than to be late, even in an a hyper-instant news climate. There is no excuse for not getting it right. I regret the mistake and can only say I will try my best not to allow it to happen again.
The Nationals optioned Yunesky Maya to Class AAA Syracuse a day after he pitched 5 1/3 innings in an emergency. They will replace him, at least for now, with Atahualpa Severino, whom the Nationals recalled from Syracuse this morning.
