Jayson Werth gets night off: Nationals-Cubs lineups: Game 136

Roger Bernadina George Nikitin/AP

Nationals Manager Davey Johnson said yesterday that he planned to give Jayson Werth the day off today. Werth didn’t want to and pushed back on Johnson, who didn’t relent. “‘No, we’re are going to be doing that.'” Johnson recalled saying last night, with a laugh. “So that was good. But he’s off.” Werth is 3 for 33 in his career against Cubs right-handed starter Chris Volstad. Roger Bernadina will lead off and starts in center field. Bryce Harper returns, playing in right field, after not starting yesterday.
