Nationals vs. Marlins discussion thread: Game 138

This is it, at least at Nationals Park this season, for Stephen Strasburg. On Friday, he’ll climb the mound here for the last time this season. Nationals Manager Davey Johnson said there’s no restriction on Strasburg (15-6, 2.94 ERA), and he’ll pitch him as long as needed and based on how he feels and the situation, the usual considerations.

The right-hander has dominated the Marlins this season, 2-1 with a 1.96 ERA in 23 innings over four starts this season. His last outing against them last week was among the worst of his career: nine hits, seven runs, five earned. Strasburg, a quiet but fierce competitor, has been mum on his shutdown, uncomfortable leaving his teammates while they march onto a pennant race. Asked if Strasburg has asked the Nationals to reconsider their position, Johnson said this about Strasburg: “He’s willing to risk this being his last year.”

Strasburg will be opposed by right-hander Jacob Turner (0-2, 6.65 ERA). As always, talk about the game here.
