Tony Beasley, Matt LeCroy stay put as Nationals announce 2013 minor league coaching staffs

December 14, 2012

The Nationals announced their 2013 minor league staffs this morning, holding steady with their managerial positions at the top two rungs of their system while moving up two others to higher levels.

Tony Beasley, at one point a candidate to coach third base for Washington, and former Nationals catcher Matt LeCroy will remain the managers at Class AAA Syracuse and Class AA Harrisburg. Both of their coaching staffs will remain intact, too.

The Nationals promoted Brian Daubach from Class A Hagerstown to Class A Potomac and moved Tripp Keister, the manager of their Gulf League League affiliate last year, to Hagerstown. Potomac’s manager in 2012, Brian Rupp, became the hitting coach at Hagerstown.

Beasley, LeCroy and Daubach are all highly thought of within the Nationals’ organization. All three may be considered as a successor to Manager Davey Johnson when he leaves the Nationals’ dugout following this season. Bench coach Randy Knorr is widely the favorite to follow Johnson.

The Nationals will also return coordinators Jeff Garber (infield), Bobby Henley (field), Spin Williams (pitching), Rick Schu (hitting) and Mark Grater (rehab). The Nationals previously announced Gary Thurman would take over as outfielder and baserunning coordinator for Tony Tarasco, who will serve as the Nationals’ first base coach this season.
