Wilson Ramos will begin his rehab assignment on Friday, catching three innings for Class AA Harrisburg while it plays Bowie in a weekend series. Ramos has been taking batting practice and running, performing all the needed physical activity to return to play. He is expected to play for Harrisburg for a few games and, if he receives medical clearance, rejoin the Nationals in Atlanta on Monday.

“If he’s not he could come with us and we could just work him out there,” Nationals Manager Davey Johnson said.

Ramos has been on the 15-day disabled list since straining his left hamstring running out a groundball on April 13.

Ryan Zimmerman has also been the disabled list since Sunday backdated to Thursday, with a strained left hamstring and is about two to three days behind Ramos in terms of progress. Zimmerman has been running and taking batting practice. He will soon ramp up his workouts and is expected to come off the disabled list as soon as he is eligible on May 3 for the series opener against the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
