Nationals at Pirates discussion thread: Game 30

(Alex Brandon / AP)

Ian Desmond will bat second tonight for the first time this season. Manager Davey Johnson liked him there with Jayson Werth out of the lineup because, “he’s swinging the bat as well as anybody else.” He leads the league with 11 doubles, he’s slugging .541 and he’s riding a nine-game hitting streak. In 99 career games hitting second, 96 of which he started, Desmond is batting .228 with a .731 OPS.
