Ryan Zimmerman will serve as the designated hitter for just the fifth time in his career as the Nationals face tough right-hander Justin Masterson and the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field on Friday night. Chad Tracy will play third base and Steve Lombardozzi will play second, replacing Anthony Rendon.

Manager Davey Johnson said he wanted to give Zimmerman a breather from playing the field and give Tracy the chance to play, hoping having him play defense will help get his mind solely off pinch-hitting. Johnson also wanted to give Rendon a day off and get switch-hitting Lombardozzi playing time against a right-handed batter.
