As expected, the Nationals officially activated Stephen Strasburg from the 15-day disabled list ahead of his Sunday start. Because the Nationals switched the rotation and benefited from rainouts and off days, Strasburg missed only one start. The Nationals’ rotation, after a month of being incomplete, is now whole again. To make room for Strasburg, the Nationals optioned left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno to Class AAA Syracuse. In 1 1/3 scoreless innings over two appearances, he allowed only one hit.

Though Manager Davey Johnson hoped to hit Anthony Rendon second in the lineup for only one day, the rookie is back there again. In a lineup bereft of base runners, there was no way to not putting Rendon’s potent bat high in the lineup again. He has hit safely in all eight games since his second call-up. Chad Tracy, who hit the game-tying homer in the eighth, is playing third with Ryan Zimmerman as the designated hitter.
