Since our last question-and-answer forum, the Nationals have made a flurry of significant moves to upgrade their roster. They sent Ian Krol, Steve Lombardozzi and pitching prospect Robbie Ray to Detroit for Doug Fister. They signed Nate McLouth to be their fourth outfielder. They traded prospect Billy Burns to Oakland for left-handed reliever Jerry Blevins. In addition, Ryan Zimmerman was informed by Manager Matt Williams that he will see some limited action at first base next season.
The offseason is approaching its final month, and the Nationals winter check-list appears nearly complete. But some things remain: will they sign Ian Desmond and/or Jordan Zimmermann to long-term extensions? Will Chris Snyder, along with Sandy Leon and Jhonatan Solano, be enough catching depth behind Wilson Ramos? Will the Nationals still find a way to add another bat to the bench or left-hander to the bullpen? Who will be the No. 5 starter: Ross Detwiler, Taylor Jordan or Tanner Roark?
