The Nationals bolstered their relief depth by re-signing veteran left-hander Michael Gonzalez, who could not find a major league contract after the Nationals released him Tuesday. Gonzalez, a part of the Nationals’ 2012 bullpen, will join Ryan Mattheus, Blake Treinen, Xavier Cedeno and the loser of the competition between Tanner Roark and Taylor Jordan on a stacked Class AAA Syracuse pitching staff.

While the Nationals re-acquired Gonzalez, there has been enough big league interest in right-handed starter Chris Young that he will not return to the Nationals, according to a person familiar with the situation. The Nationals released Young on Tuesday. The Mariners and Angels are teams in need of an additional starting pitcher.
