Jayson Werth is improving and is available to pinch hit on Saturday but Manager Matt Williams said he wouldn’t push the outfielder into action.

Werth left Friday’s game in the 10th inning with groin tightness. Werth went 1 for 5 before being replaced by Tyler Moore. Williams said Werth felt cramping when he faced Braves closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth and when he tried to take the field after. As a precaution, Williams took Werth out of the game. Werth will be re-evaluated on Sunday.

“I think he’s fine but at this point looking at the long term, we don’t want to push him either,” Williams said.

Werth dealt with groin tightness last season, too, and knows how to manage the injury. He said this spring that he is susceptible to groin injuries.
