[Updated 4:42 p.m.] The Nationals will begin their roughly two months without Bryce Harper tonight in Houston. Harper underwent surgery today to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb and gave a thumbs up with his other hand afterward.

With the designated hitter available in an American League park, Kevin Frandsen will technically replace Harper in left. Nate McLouth will play right field as Jayson Werth gets the first DH duties of the season.
