There are several interesting things about the Nationals’ Saturday lineup against the Athletics. Zach Walters, an infielder, is making his first major league start in left field. He last played the position in 2012, playing only one game in right field for Class A Potomac. In recent weeks, he has been shagging flyballs and practicing throws from the outfield under coaches’ guidance.

Also, Adam LaRoche is resting although Manager Matt Williams said the day before that he hoped he would play first base on Saturday. Instead, Kevin Frandsen is again at first base. Jayson Werth will be the Nationals designated hitter and Nate McLouth, who cut his hand open making a spectacular catch earlier in the week, is starting for the first time since.
