Third baseman Anthony Rendon is out of the Nationals lineup after he left last night’s game after five innings with a sore, swollen right hand. Manager Matt Williams said Rendon’s X-rays came back negative and that he’s day to day. It’s not a surprise that Rendon would miss at least one game.

With Rendon out, the Nationals will keep Ryan Zimmerman in left field and play Kevin Frandsen at third base, allowing Danny Espinosa to stay at second. Given Zimmerman’s comments yesterday, it’s also not a surprise that Zimmerman is heading back to third for a game.  Zimmerman made two solid plays in left field last night, including one that forced him to run into the side wall in foul territory. One scout said he’s better in left than he anticipated, at least early on.

Padres starter Andrew Cashner just came off the disabled list, and the Padres designated lefty reliever Jason Lane for assignment.
