Seven Nationals minor leaguers have been selected to play in the Arizona Fall League, which often features some of the best prospects in the sport.

The Nationals representatives will play for the Mesa Solar Sox, which will also field minor leaguers from the Angels, Athletics, Blue Jays and Cubs. Right-handed pitchers Neil Holland and Derek Self, left-handed pitchers Felipe Rivero and Matt Grace, catchers Spencer Kieboom and Pedro Severino and infielder Tony Renda form the Nationals’ contingent.

The season starts October 7.

Grace, 25, may be the most intriguing prospect of the bunch. After a 1.02 ERA over 35 1/3 innings at Class AA Harrisburg, he was promoted to Class AAA Syracuse where has posted a 1.40 ERA over 38 2/3 innings.

Holland, 26, who served a brief stint at Syracuse, has a 3.05 ERA over 62 innings as a reliever at Harrisburg. Self, 24, has a 3.58 ERA over 37 2/3 innings at Harrisburg.

Rivero, 23, who was acquired as part of the Jose Lobaton trade, recently returned from an elbow injury and has a 4.38 ERA over nine starts at Harrisburg.

Kieboom, 23, is hitting .311/.350/.487 with seven homers and 58 RBI at Class A Hagerstown. Severino, 21, known as the Nationals’ top defensive catching prospect, is hitting .248/.308/.398 with eight homers and 31 RBI at Class A Potomac. Renda, 23, is hitting .300/.371/.374 with 47 RBI and 17 stolen bases at Potomac.

Hagerstown Manager Patrick Anderson will serve as a coach on the Mesa Solar Sox and Potomac trainer T.D. Swinford will serve as a co-trainer.
